IPMU 포커스 위크 (3/16-20): LHC 물리학

월요일부터 금요일까지 소수 전문가들의 집중적인 토론 기회를 마련하기 위해 IPMU에서 포커스 위크 워크숍을 개최한다. 특히 입자의 질량과 스핀을 측정하는 가장 중요하면서도 어려운 일을 가능하게할 이론적 아이디어들이 집중적으로 토의될 것이다.

LHC 블랙홀 연구를 비롯해서 많은 역할을 하고있는 브라이언 웨버와 IPMU, KEK의 미호코 노지리 교수가 오거나이져, 나도 로컬 오거나이져 (=가까운 도우미)로 프로그램 스케쥴을 짜고, 연락하는 일을 좀 했다. 그런데 막판까지 취소하는 사람이 생기고 일정변경하는 분들이 있어서 조금 걱정이 되긴하다..

발표 수를 제한하고 좀 더 토론 시간을 갖자는 원래 계획과 달리 발표신청자들이 많아서 특히 수요일엔 많은 짧은 톡들이 배치할 수 밖에 없었다. 여러 목소리를 들을 수 있다는 장점과 좀 더 '포커스'할 시간을 잃게 된다는 단점이 있겠다. 대신 수요일에 뱅큇이 있으니 많은 발표로 지친 사람들에게 잠시나마 휴식이 되길 희망하고 있는데 어떨지..

장소는 ICRR이 위치한 General Research Building 633호. (IPMU 사람들은 그냥 "6층" 이라고 부른다). 오늘 저녁은 일부 참석자들과 카시와역 근처에서 할 예정인데 반가운 얼굴들을 만날 생각을 하니 설렌다. ^^
